From Aisle to Awards: The Story Behind Lorna Luxe’s BAFTA Wedding Dress Transformation

When the notifications started blowing up on our insta last week, we knew something special must be happening!
It started with a simple shout out on Instagram. Fashion icon Lorna Luxe was looking for a seamstress in the Warwick area to help with a very special project for the TV BAFTA Awards. Within minutes, over 30 of our incredible community had tagged Abigail Westrup Bridal.
We’re still pinching ourselves but the result was a 24-hour whirlwind and a very powerful message about sustainability and love.
A Dress Filled with Memories
The project was unlike any other, Lorna wanted to re-wear her original wedding dress to the BAFTAS.
In a world of fast fashion, where influencers are often expected to never be seen in the same outfit twice, Lorna’s choice was revolutionary. This wasn’t just any dress; it was the gown she wore to marry her beloved husband, John, who sadly passed away just a few months ago.
For our Founder, Abi, the decision to help was instant. She said:
“When I heard that Lorna was wanting to re-wear her wedding dress to the BAFTAS and needed it tailoring, I knew I wanted to help straight away. I thought it was so lovely that Lorna could be re-wearing those memories with her beloved late husband John, but also because of the sustainability message it gives in a fast fashion world, that one of the most influential fashion Instagrammers chose to re-wear such a special dress.
This is so symbolic to how dresses don’t have to only be worn once and never again. I think it’s a really important message to us all to always reach for fast fashion, especially from Lorna who could have been gifted so many new dresses to wear to the event”.
The 24-Hour Transformation
Sustainability is a pillar of what we do at Abigail Westrup Bridal. We believe that a dress, especially one as significant as a wedding gown, shouldn’t just live in a box after the big day. It has a soul, a history, and a future.
However, the timeline was tight. Abi had just 24 hours to meet Lorna, fit the gown, and complete the expert tailoring required to ensure the dress fit Lorna like a Red Carpet showstopper.
She ensured the fit was nothing short of perfection. Seeing Lorna step out onto the BAFTA carpet, looking radiant and carrying the memory of her husband with her, was a moment we’ll never forget.
We shared a video of the alterations process in Warwick on our socials, you can see it here.
Making Headlines for a Better Fashion Future
The response has been overwhelming. Not only was the look featured in The Sun and across major fashion blogs, but Lorna’s kind words on Instagram brought over 500 new followers to AWB.
But beyond the followers and the press, the real win is the message.
“It just goes to show that it can be even more special to re-wear something than buying something new,” Abi adds. “Dresses don’t have to be worn once and forgotten just because they’ve been seen on social media. They can evolve, just like we do.”
